1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing the TEL Academy Student Portal ("Portal") and submitting a registration application, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Portal.
2. About TEL Academy
TEL Academy (Pty) Ltd is a Level 1 B-BBEE accredited training and development provider registered in South Africa. We are accredited by QCTO, HW SETA, CETA, TETA and SAQA to deliver occupational qualifications and skills programmes across the Mining, Energy, Construction and related sectors.
3. Portal Registration
To access certain features of the Portal you must register an account. You agree to:
Provide accurate, complete and up-to-date information during registration.
Maintain the confidentiality of your student number and password.
Notify TEL Academy immediately of any unauthorised use of your account.
Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Permitted Use
The Portal is provided exclusively for enrolled and prospective TEL Academy students. You agree to use the Portal only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You may not:
Share your login credentials with any third party.
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Portal or its systems.
Upload or transmit any harmful, offensive or unlawful content.
Use the Portal for any commercial purpose without prior written consent from TEL Academy.
5. Enrolment and Fees
Submission of a registration form through the Portal constitutes an expression of interest only and does not confirm enrolment. Enrolment is subject to programme availability, assessment of eligibility and receipt of applicable fees. TEL Academy will contact you within one business day to confirm your application status.
6. Intellectual Property
All content on the Portal — including course materials, assessments, logos, text and graphics — is the intellectual property of TEL Academy (Pty) Ltd or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute or create derivative works from this content without prior written permission.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Portal is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. TEL Academy makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the availability, accuracy or fitness of the Portal for any particular purpose. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, TEL Academy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Portal.
9. Amendments
TEL Academy reserves the right to amend these Terms of Use at any time. Continued use of the Portal following notification of changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

1. Introduction
TEL Academy (Pty) Ltd ("TEL Academy", "we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information when you use our Student Portal or interact with our services.
2. Information We Collect
When you register or apply through the Portal, we may collect the following personal information:
Identity information: Full name and South African ID number.
Contact information: Email address, WhatsApp/phone number and physical address.
Academic information: Programme of interest, prior qualifications and training history.
Account credentials: Student number and password (stored as a one-way bcrypt hash — we never see or store your plaintext password).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
Process and manage your enrolment application.
Communicate with you about your application, programme and results.
Issue certificates, learner records and SETA/QCTO submissions as required.
Comply with our legal obligations as an accredited training provider.
Send you relevant updates about programmes, short courses and TEL Academy news (you may opt out at any time).
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information on the following lawful grounds under POPIA:
Your consent, given at the point of registration.
Performance of a contract to which you are a party (your enrolment agreement).
Compliance with a legal obligation applicable to TEL Academy as an accredited provider.
Our legitimate interests in operating and improving our training services.
5. Sharing of Your Information
TEL Academy does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information with:
Accreditation bodies: QCTO, HW SETA, CETA, TETA and SAQA for learner registration and certification purposes.
Service providers: Hosting, payment processing and communication platforms that process data on our behalf under binding agreements.
Legal authorities: Where required by law or court order.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Policy and to comply with our legal and accreditation obligations. Academic records are retained for a minimum of five (5) years in accordance with QCTO and SETA requirements.
7. Security of Your Information
TEL Academy implements appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. Passwords are stored as one-way bcrypt hashes (industry-standard password hashing), which means they cannot be reversed back to the original password. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights Under POPIA
As a data subject under POPIA, you have the right to:
Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
Request deletion of your personal information (subject to our legal retention obligations).
Object to the processing of your personal information.
Withdraw your consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing).
Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

The Portal may use cookies to improve your browsing experience and to analyse usage patterns. You may configure your browser to refuse cookies; however, some features of the Portal may not function correctly without them.
